I didn't like the Buster Posey hire. I made it clear from the jump.
But I failed to consider the one thing Posey would have that Farhan Zaidi never did. The most important thing needed to be an effective CEO and make, say, a franchise-altering trade: influence.
Posey has ownership in his pocket. Mostly because he is ownership. But even before that, going back to the end of his playing days, Posey had a tight connection with the boss, Greg Johnson.
The relationship only grew as Posey joined ownership and the board of directors. It culminated in a job offer to run the team, and in nine months Posey has signed or traded for the two richest contracts in team history. Maybe that could've happened for Zaidi if he got one yes from Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, or Shohei Ohtani. But he didn't.
So it hardly matters that the vast majority of the roster came to be under Zaidi's watch. Because now, more than ever, these are Buster Posey's Giants.
