Write It in Ink | Reds 5, Giants 1
The year in 2022. We're decades into the digital age. We have touchscreens, tweets, and texting. How can it be, then, that umpires use tiny sheets of paper to decide who can and cannot play in a Major League Baseball game?
The Giants tweeted at 2:30 they activated Jake McGee. Six hours later, umpires removed McGee from the game before he'd even thrown a pitch. His name wasn't written on their lineup card. He couldn't play.
Jose Alvarez entered instead and the game slipped away. The Giants can only hope to find a Sharpie in time for Saturday's game.
