Logan Webb had never thrown a pitch in the ninth inning before Monday. He's now thrown two, and one was hit for a home run.

The Giants lived to tell about it, beating the Phillies in extras, but it had me thinking about difficulty of throwing a complete game in 2022. There's only been eight.

Monday's start, the 55th in Webb's career, was only the fourth time he's reached 100 pitches. Tim Lincecum averaged 107 per start in his age-25 season—a different era.

Lincecum, coincidentally, also struggled in his first ninth inning. Ten CGs—and two Cy Youngs—followed.
