Feel that? That unexpected breeze while you're reading this? What is it?
The Giants are happy to explain. Last night's unplanned but predictable Strikeout Fest stirred up the air around the Bay Area. Expect conditions to return to normal by 6:45 or so this evening.
Strikeouts happen more than ever in today's game, so what made Monday any different?
Blake Snell and Chris Sale battled in a brilliant pitcher's duel. They combined for 23 strikeouts across 13 1/3 innings. The Giants say it’s the most whiffs for any two starters in the history of Oracle Park.
What’s more, the 33 total strikeouts Monday night were the most in any game this season.
The Giants had their shot at Sale almost immediately. They put runners on the corner to start the game. Then what happened? Strikeout, strikeout.
Snell registered 11 whiffs on his own, giving him 45 across his last four starts. That's the second-most for a Giants pitcher ever in the span of four starts according to Baseball Reference.
But it's merely a footnote when your offense looks as feeble as the one you're dominating.
Up next: The Giants will try to score this evening against veteran Charlie Morton (6-7, 4.47 ERA). They’ll send Kyle Harrison (6-5, 4.08 ERA) to the mound at 6:45 p.m.
