Timing is everything in life, right? Just ask the Giants.
With a limp lineup that makes even the worst starting pitchers believe that this could finally be their day, the Giants could be in much worse shape. They've been dodging baseball's best pitchers like Frogger.
You only have to look back two days, when the Giants missed Tigers ace Tarik Skubal by one game. He threw a shutout on 94 pitches.
When the Giants went to New York they never saw Max Fried. In a four-game series against the Phillies, Zack Wheeler was the only starter they didn't face. Jacob deGrom, Shota Imanaga, and Hunter Brown all have ERAs under three. The Giants avoided all of them in three-game series.
It's luck, bordering on impressive. But it's also an indictment of the Giants offense. They’re not taking advantage of lesser pitchers. To compensate for missing ace after ace, they made Keider Montero (5.28 ERA) look like one on Monday afternoon.
The Giants don't discriminate between Cy Young and Cy Yuck, and it's about time they do.
Up next: Speaking of aces, the Giants are sending theirs to the mound on Tuesday afternoon. It’ll be Logan Webb (5-4, 2.67) against Jack Flaherty (2-6, 4.39 ERA) at 3:40 pm.
