Wet Blankets | Twins 3, Giants 2 F/10
Welcome back.
On a wet Saturday night in Minneapolis, the Giants folded at the finish line.
The most damning moment of the game should have ended the game. With two outs in the ninth, Brandon Crawford received a cutoff throw after a bloop single. The Twins were everywhere.
One runner was standing halfway between second and third. Another was between third and home.
With Crawford staring at first when he received the throw, he never saw the chaos around him. It was a moment befitting of a season that's spiraled because of a catch—or a throw—that wasn't made.
Sunday Special
What I’m reading
• A profile of Mario Carbone, the man behind a New York City Italian joint bearing his name and drawing A-list clientele every day of the week (including myself and Jackie, celebrating our engagement).
• Big Money is making its way out to Big Sky country. I’ll get in line.
• College football is back. So is the slog of the viewing experience.
What I’m eating
• We tried an assortment of novelty bites at the Minnesota State Fair, including fried ice cream and pickle pizza. Don’t knock pickles on pizza until you try it.
• There’s a wave of Dave’s Hot Chicken crashing down in New York. Unfortunately the first one opened across the street from me. It’s darn good.
