It's time to talk about Jordan Hicks.
I'm late to the party—but why demand change when you know the Buster Posey Giants aren't going to make it?
Well, 40 games in, we finally saw some change. A reflection of reality. Willy Adames dropped in the order. Matt Chapman, Heliot Ramos, and Jung Hoo Lee shuffled around as well. The Giants are ready to leave Small Sample Size Season behind.
Hicks lasted only two innings on Wednesday. His ERA stands out like a Cybertruck: 6.55.
It's hard to justify sending Hicks to the bullpen when hitters are jumping on him right away. His ERA in the first inning is 12. This isn't a third-time-through-the-order problem. Batters are hitting .354 with a .957 OPS in their first at-bats against Hicks.
That's a whole lineup, one through nine, putting up those numbers. Bad!
Hayden Birdsong didn't do his best campaigning for the job on Wednesday. He allowed three runs in three innings, but it shouldn't matter. The Giants are lying to themselves if they think Hicks gives them a better chance to win than Birdsong or Kyle Harrison.
It's time for a change. We'll see if they make it.
Up next: The Sacramento A’s come to town on Friday for what is definitely not the Bay Bridge Series. I don’t know what to call it. What do you want to call it? At the very least, Friday is Logan Webb (4-3, 2.60 ERA) Day. First pitch at 7:15 pm.
Went to yesterday’s game and did not even get my first bite of $30 Tony’s pizza and beer before they were losing… #sad
