No team has rostered more Hall of Famers than the Giants. Yes, there’s Mays, McCovey, and Marichal. But don’t forget Red, King, and Hack.
Then there’s Joe Morgan, Steve Carlton, Gary Carter, and the list goes on.
Going all the way back to the prehistoric days of 1883, 55 Hall of Famers have suited up for the Giants. And after Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati, that number is going go up in a few years.
Justin Verlander debuted for his new team at 42 years old, and in his words, he was “OK.” And I think "OK" is ... okay?
If the Giants are going to get where they want to go, it’s not going to be because Verlander found the fountain of youth. More likely it’ll be because a few unsuspecting arms showed flashes of a young Verlander.
If Old Verlander can repeat what he did Saturday—five innings, two runs—the Giants are going to be ... okay. Maybe even more than okay.
In the meantime, enjoy watching a future Cooperstown resident while you can.
Up next: Robbie Ray, one of the many Giants who had an outstanding spring, makes his first start of the season against Nick Martinez. First pitch at 10:40 am. Enjoy your brunch with a side of baseball.
