For weeks we've been waiting for an answer: Are the Giants buyers or sellers?
Finally, we know: Neither. Or both. Idk.
Farhan Zaidi has made a habit of "threading the needle" at the trade deadline. He sends away a few guys. He reels in a few. And the result is a roster meaningfully unchanged.
Out went Jorge Soler, Luke Jackson, and Alex Cobb. In came Mark Canha.
The biggest move is one Zaidi didn't make. He kept Blake Snell, pinning the Giants' slim playoff hopes on the starting rotation. But it's more than that. Zaidi is pinning his job on this starting rotation.
If the Giants don't make the playoffs, I think it's over for him.
But if the Giants don't make the playoffs, it'll have nothing to do with the rotation. It'll have everything to do with an offense even JP Sears and the A's can shut down.
Up next: Logan Webb (7-8, 3.72 ERA) takes the mound against old friend Ross Stripling (2-9, 6.02 ERA) at 6:45 p.m. I’ll be back in your inbox in a few days. Enjoy.
More status quo, lovely. Zaidi is one of those super intelligent people who can’t accept when their plan fails. He keeps thinking it’ll work out like his stats say they will, while the mediocre reality is unchanged. He should be fired before season end like he did Kapler (who was clearly not the problem).
