With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Brett Wisely lined a foul ball over first base. Nothing unusual about it.
Wisely stepped back in the box for a moment, then pointed to the dugout. He hoped the replay room saw what he saw.
It looked like Freddie Freeman, who made a leap at the ball as it whizzed over him, may have ticked it with his glove. Watching the replay from Wisely's vantage point, you can see why he reacted. It looked like the ball changed course.
A different angle, however, revealed it to be an optical illusion. It was already too late. The Giants challenged and immediately lost.
Three pitches later a ball soared into the right field seats. The water cannons fired. The team mobbed home plate. And the Wisard, Brett Wisely, was never happier to have lost a replay review.
Up next: Erik Miller (2-2, 3.79 ERA) starts another bullpen game against Tyler Glasnow (8-5, 2.88 ERA), who is most definitely not a reliever. First pitch at 4:15 p.m.
