I like the new extra innings format. I really do. But it occasionally leads to inexplicable situations like it did Thursday night.

After throwing two pitches, Jarlín García was staring down a bases loaded, no outs situation. All thanks to a no-pitch intentional walk, and a bunt single García didn’t know what to do with.

The Giants only reached extras because of Brandon Crawford’s game-tying single with two outs in the ninth, the kind of hit that makes you believe the season will turn around. Then came the 10th, when the Giants showed who they really are: 41-40.
