Oracle Park sticks in the mind for a lot of reasons. The sun-splashed views. The giant Coke bottle. The garlic fries, and so on.
The tin roof does not make the list. I love the tin roof.
Sitting atop the brick wall in right field, the tin roof announces home runs with a euphoric clank. Balls that reach the tin almost always soar in the air for an uncomfortable amount of time, long enough for you to lean forward in your seat as it shoots down like a meteor.
If it makes impact, joy. If it misses by even an inch, hitting the bricks instead, sprint.
The tin showed up for the Giants Wednesday night, gifting Mike Yastrzemski a two-run homer. It famously showed up for J.T. Snow, 24 long years ago.
I don't know the next time it'll show up, but when it does, I'll be leaning forward.
Up next: The Giants are off today before the streaking (!) Colorado Rockies come to town. They’ve won seven in a row. It’ll be Kyle Harrison (3-1, 3.42 ERA) taking on Ryan Feltner (1-3, 5.20 ERA) at 7:15 p.m.
