We all live in our own echo chambers. Following the Giants every day, it's hard to know how the outside world perceives them.
ESPN's David Schoenfield recently wrote of the Giants: "For now, I'm a believer. Let's see what happens with that first series against the Dodgers in June."
Joe Sheehan, who writes a terrific baseball newsletter, said this: "Of the three teams beating my projections, the Giants are the one I just don’t believe in, but it’s hard to pin down why."
I agree with Joe. The Giants are confusing. Maybe every team is, but this is the one I follow every day.
Set up for a a slam-dunk series win on Wednesday—Logan Webb vs. the Royals bullpen—they got pummeled. Webb gave up 10+ hits for only the fourth time in his career.
A top-five team with runners in scoring position this year, the Giants went 0 for 7. The Royals went 8 for 18.
One game is just a blip. Thirty-four games is not—and the Giants are 17-17 over that stretch. That faint sound you hear off in the distance is the familiar tune of .500. It's been echoing around this chamber for years.
Up next: The Giants head on the road for a three-city road trip, starting in D.C. on Friday. It’ll be Landon Roupp (2-3, 4.11) against former top prospect MacKenzie Gore (2-4, 3.67 ERA). First pitch at 3:45 pm.
