The Giants' first home game is opening day. Always has been, always will be. I'm unmoved by the facts of it being Game No. 8 and the team limping in at 2-5.
It felt as if the season began again on Friday afternoon, and what a joy it was. The bunting (punting?). The ovations. The walk-off.
No matter how this season turns out, we'll remember Matt Chapman's rumble around the bases. We'll remember the Jordan Hicks experiment getting off to an unbelievable start. We'll remember the roars for ... Jung Hoo Lee's dad?
There will be many days and many postcards for questioning and skepticism. Not today.
What a great day at the yard.
Up next: Keaton Winn (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will try to make it two in a row over the Padres and Michael King (1-0, 6.14 ERA). First pitch at 6:05 p.m.
