I still remember Brandon Crawford whacking his first major league hit over the wall in Milwaukee. That grand slam in his first game opened up a world of possibilities.
Was Crawford going to be a power-hitting shortstop? A perennial 30-homer guy? A Hall of Famer? None of those things panned out, of course. But if only for one day you could reasonably ask the most unreasonable questions.
That’s where we’re at with Jung Hoo Lee, who mashed his first major league homer Saturday and after three games (!) is batting .333 with four RBI and one strikeout. Is he going to be the greatest leadoff hitter in Giants history? In baseball history?
It’s an exaggeration. But it’s the beauty of game three—both of this season and of Lee’s career. The possibilities are endless.
Up next: Daulton Jefferies makes his Giants debut Sunday against Michael King (1-0, 8.10 ERA). Jefferies is a former first-round pick by the A’s but only appeared in 14 games as a reliever across three seasons. We’ll see what he’s got, and for how long. First pitch at 1:10 p.m.
