I was wrong about LaMonte Wade Jr.
I didn't think he deserved the first base job going into this year. I didn't think the Giants should have let Brandon Belt go.
I thought the Giants squeezed every last drop out of Wade in 2021, when his pinch-hitting prowess earned him the nickname Late-Night LaMonte.
I was wrong.
This version of LaMonte Wade Jr. is a supercharged version of Brandon Belt. He's been an on-base machine this year, with the third-highest OBP in baseball. He's getting on base more frequently than Aaron Judge.
And with each game like Saturday's, when he reached four times in a 4-0 win, I'm more and more wrong.
Good thing I'm not in charge.
Next up: In the series rubber match this afternoon, Anthony DeSclafani (4-4, 3.48 ERA) and Tyler Wells (3-2, 3.29 ERA) face off at 1:05 p.m.
