The Kings of Spring

As expected, the Giants are the envy of the Cactus League.

The Giants are the best team in baseball. Matt Chapman is hitting .529. Willy Adames has an OPS over 1.000, and Logan Webb an ERA under two. Maybe it means something. It probably means nothing.

The last time the Giants lost 90 games they finished with the third best record in the Cactus League. The last time the Giants won 100 games they finished with the fourth worst record in the Cactus League.

But a winning month of spring training feels like the kind of thing Buster Posey would anchor on. Evidence of a shift in culture, attitude, vibes—all the things Posey is supposedly working on.

I won't stop you from dreaming on Jung Hoo Lee actually hitting .333 from the three-hole, or Lou Trivino continuing to sling it like it's 2018. But the fun numbers go away in about two weeks. Enjoy looking at them while you can.
