The Giants may not make it to a playoff series. But if they did, it would probably be against the Dodgers. In a three-game series. With Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Justin Verlander lined up to pitch.
Sound familiar?
October baseball can come before October. It's already here for the Giants, and they failed in the dry run against their rivals. They had their pitching lined up, a (mostly) healthy roster, and sold-out crowds at home. Yet they looked like a team much further than 1.5 games out of a playoff spot.
You don't need me to tell you these final 13 games are "must-wins." But if they go poorly and October never comes, just know it actually did, September 12-14. And it wasn't good enough.
Up next: The Giants head to Arizona, where Kai-Wei Teng (2-4, 7.54 ERA) and Zac Gallen (11-14, 4.84 ERA) will square off at 6:40 p.m.
Playoff race: The DBacks have leapfrogged the Reds, adding some extra intrigue to this week’s series. The Giants sit 1.5 games behind the Mets, and they’ll need to finish a full game ahead of them (not tie them) to reach the playoffs.
