We’re in the middle of Small Sample Size Season. The season is 12 games old. Let’s get that out of the way.
The Giants have issues. They're the worst-hitting team in the National League with runners in scoring position. Two hits in their last 33 at-bats, including two crucial moments in the ninth inning of Tuesday's loss.
You can chalk up some of the issues to bad luck. No. 9 hitter Nick Ahmed ended up in several big spots Tuesday night. But then there are some questionable approaches by Giants hitters, taking a bizarre number of pitches right over the plate.
Whatever it is, it needs to change. This isn't working right now.
Up next: The Giants will try to avoid the sweep against the juggernaut Nationals. Good grief. It’ll be Jordan Hicks (1-0, 0.75 ERA) and Patrick Corbin (0-1, 6.97 ERA) playing some afternoon baseball; first pitch at 12:45 p.m.
