When the Giants released Nick Ahmed earlier this week, it signaled a vote of confidence in Brett Wisely. With the opportunity to be an everyday player, or close to it, comes pressure. When someone loses their job so you can keep yours, that's pressure.
The Giants are asking Wisely to keep doing what he's been doing. He's been a revelation for a while now—just not Wednesday night.
When the game went sideways in the sixth inning, Wisely was right in the middle of it. He watched a line drive skip right by him with runners on second and third. A few batters later he couldn't make a clean exchange on a potential double play.
The game was lost at this point, but the season sure isn't. The Giants need the best of Brett Wisely the rest of the way. Who would've thought?
Up next: The Giants go for the series win with Jordan Hicks (4-5, 3.47 ERA) facing old friend Kevin Gausman (6-8, 4.64 ERA). Gausman’s struggled this year but I have a feeling he’s going to deal this afternoon. We’ll see. First pitch at 12:45 p.m.
