There were a thousand ways for things to go wrong.

But with Camilo Doval on the mound, you can't help but feel like a thousand things are going to go right. Even against Goldschmidt.

The game's climactic at-bat lasted one pitch, and it told you everything you need to know about Doval and the 2023 Cardinals. Goldschmidt hit a weak grounder back to the mound and that was it.

No heroics. No drama. No blood.

Doval hasn't blown a save since April and sports a 1.86 ERA. The Cardinals have lost and eight of their last 10 and sit in last place. Talk about a horror film.
