The Giants’ bullpen isn’t making Gabe Kapler look good. Not only because a slew of relievers have been unreliable, but because their implosions have come right after Kapler removed the starter.
After pulling Logan Webb in the fifth inning of Saturday’s loss, John Brebbia immediately allowed a game-tying single. When Kapler yanked Alex Wood on Thursday, Camilo Doval yielded two run-scoring hits. Two days before that, Brebbia again gave up the lead an inning after Jakob Junis departed.
What the Giants need is more from their starters. That way they need less from their bullpen—and Gabe Kapler.

What I’m reading
• I only wrote 100 words about being at Jameson Taillon’s perfect game bid this week. My pal Matt Martell wrote more—in excruciating detail. Extraordinary journalism.
• A little behind-the-scenes on Apple’s big push into virtual reality. I wonder what they’ll call their headset. Apple Vision? iVision? iEyes?
• The slowest bus in New York City.
What I’m eating
• A made-for-Instagram grilled chicken sandwich—with black pepper aioli, because of course—at Pastis.
• My favorite BLT in the city.
• I’d like to try these spicy sesame noodles with chicken.
