Three years ago the Giants moved up the first pitch of weekday night games by 30 minutes, from 7:15 p.m. to 6:45.

The idea was to get more families out to the yard. Kids could go to bed before midnight. The idea was not to drench the outfielders in 30 extra minutes of sunlight. But that's their reality.

So when David Villar lined a ball at right fielder Jake McCarthy in the first inning, he never saw it. He stumbled to the ground and still came tantalizingly close to an acrobatic catch.

Instead? Little League home run.
