The Giants' injury problem is very real.
By the time Casey Schmitt walked-off the Reds Sunday afternoon, the Giants were left with less than half their Opening Day lineup. Sure sounds like a problem.
But how much of one is it, really?
Consider the Giants played at full strength for the first six weeks of the season. They had a winning record for exactly one day—and ever since have run from .500 like a monster under their bed.
The Healthy Giants proved to be mediocre. Now, at least for the next few weeks, the Replacement Giants are here. How much worse could they be?
If Sunday is any sign, not much.
Inexperience might be the best thing this team has going for it.
Up next: We’ll see how the Replacement Giants stack up against Shohei Ohtani and his friends. The Dodgers come to town for three, and it’ll be Jordan Hicks (3-1, 2.30 ERA) vs. Gavin Stone (3-1, 3.55 ERA) in Game 1. First pitch at 6:45 p.m.
