The Giants' ERA this month is creeping toward six.

When you have baseball's worst ERA in May, as the Giants do, you're getting crushed almost every day. The Giants were crushed Monday. They allowed a lot of hard contact, but this sequence was their undoing:

• Brandon Nimmo infield single.
• Starling Marte infield single.
• Francisco Lindor fly ball into left, with an expected batting average of .010. The ball had a 1% chance of being a hit. It landed fair by a few inches for a double.
• Pete Alonso three-run homer.

Some nights you allow six extra-base hits. Some nights you allow six infield hits. Some nights you allow both.
