The Giants are consistently inconsistent. As a team with .500ish stamped on its forehead, this is a natural trait of theirs. Winning streaks cancel out losing streaks, bad weeks even out with good weeks.
Symptoms of this consistent inconsistency are everywhere, hiding in plain sight. Here's one I first heard Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic point out on KNBR.
Giants starting pitchers haven't earned a win in three straight games since last May. Read that again. It's been more than a year since Giants starters won three consecutive games. They had a chance to break this mediocre streak on Wednesday but couldn't.
Jordan Hicks pitched well enough to earn a win, but as happens so often with a .500ish team, the bats don’t show up when the pitching does. You have to admire that kind of consistency.
Up next: The Giants send Logan Webb (6-6, 3.12 ERA) to the hill as they go for the series win against the Braves. He’ll face Charlie Morton (5-4, 3.89 ERA) at 4:20 p.m.
Have a great Fourth, everyone, and I’ll be back in your inbox in a few days.
That’s are very telling fact, it’s felt like they’ve been treading water the last year plus. I keep waiting and hoping for them to break out and go on a run. Better happen soon for this season to be different than the last two.
