Most of us get two days off per week. Some of us get more. (Looking at you, grandpa.)
Willy Adames, embracing his inner Bill Belichick, wanted no days off. From March to September, he sought to clock in for 162 days of work. And really, wouldn't you for $182 million?
Adames was on board, and so were the Giants. Then the season started.
It went as poorly as it could have for two months before manager Bob Melvin said enough. Adames needed a day off. He sat on Sunday, and coupled with Monday's off day, rested for a proper weekend. Hopefully he doesn't need one for another couple months.
Adames stepped back in the box Tuesday looking the guy Buster Posey thought he signed. He immediately plated the Giants’ first two runs with a sac fly and a homer. On Wednesday Adames knocked three hits, including another long ball. His 11 total bases over the last two games are as many as he had over the last 22 games.
Much like the rest of us, all he needed was a weekend.
Up next: The Giants go for the sweep with Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 2.55 ERA) on the mound against Antonio Senzatela (1-10, 6.68 ERA). That’s about as rough of a record and ERA as I think I’ve ever typed. Jinx incoming. First pitch at 12:10 pm.
