🎧 Podcast: Is the Giants’ next manager already on the coaching staff? Kerry and I think so.
At low points throughout the season, I'll pretend to forget about the Giants.
Hey Connor, how 'bout them Giants?
Who?
Man, I don't know about this team.
What team?
This is one of those times. Because really, it's easier to pretend the Giants don't exist right now than it is to acknowledge their midsummer nosedive.
It's easier to pretend you don't understand what it means to go hitless with runners in scoring position across an entire series. It's easier to pretend you find no significance in No. 9 hitter Ronny Mauricio having the game of his life Sunday night. It's easier to pretend that the third wild card is an obscure poker term than something you hope is within reach.
Because if you showed me the standings right now, I'd shrug and ask you a question.
Aren't the Giants a football team?
Best thing I heard last night: ESPN reporter Buster Olney shared that over the winter, a general manager texted him a trade proposal intended for Buster Posey. I wish Buster O. had accepted on behalf of Buster P.
Up next: Top pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt (8-5, 4.42 ERA) will make his major league debut against Mitch Keller (4-10, 3.53 ERA) and the Pirates on Monday night at 6:45 pm. Whisenhunt hasn’t had a great season but he’s been OK in his last couple outings after posting an 6.91 ERA in June. Giants will take a spark from anyone.
