When you let the kids drive, sometimes they go a little too fast. They take a turn too sharply. They don't see the Prius lingering in their blindspot. There's a lot of uneasiness that comes with ceding that kind of control. Finally, the Giants did.
Sunday's lineup was met with the eyes emoji. McCray. Ramos. Fitzgerald. Matos. Luciano. All starting against a Padres team sprinting toward the postseason.
Headline: The Giants won. Terrific. .500, here they come.
Subhead: This happened.
Two runs scored. Tyler Fitzgerald and Marco Luciano jawed in the dugout. Luciano left the game.
That play can't happen—but I'm glad it did? It's the kind of play that should happen now, if it's going to happen at all.
There's a world where Fitzgerald and Luciano share an infield for years to come. The former clearly doesn’t trust the latter. If they're going to have an accident, best to do it in an empty Sears parking lot.
Maybe next summer they'll be ready for the road.
Next up: Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are in Santa Clara and … ah, right. Giants are off today. Brewers come to town for three, starting Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. Only nine home games left.
