How'd you get to first base?
Marlins 6, Giants 3
There are seven ways to reach first base. The Marlins checked off six of them by the second inning.
Error
Walk
Fielder’s choice
Single
Catcher’s interference
Hit by pitch
Can you think of the seventh? I know you know it.
It was the only blunder missing from a game full of them. Saturday went down as the first San Francisco Giants game ever with four errors and four hit batsmen.
On paper it didn’t look all bad. The Giants outhit the Marlins 10-6, with five doubles and a homer while going 5 for 14 with runners in scoring position.
In reality the game ended in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Marlins batted around against three different Giants pitchers in a half-inning that took 30 minutes to finish.
Surely there had to be a dropped third strike in there somewhere.
Up next: At least there’s Logan Webb (4-4, 3.46 ERA). He faces a 27-year-old righty with a fun name: Ryan Gusto (0-2, 7.24 ERA). First pitch at 10:40 am.
