The Buster Posey comparisons aren’t fair, so we won’t make one here.
But it’s taken only 33 games for Patrick Bailey to become one of the best catchers in baseball—and his 33rd game might have been his best.
He rescued the Giants with a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth. Then, with one out in the ninth, he threw out Starling Marte trying to steal second.
The game ended one pitch later.
The ever-understated Gabe Kapler called it "superstar-caliber stuff."
The numbers agree. He has the highest WAR of any catcher in baseball since his debut. His pop time to second base is in the 96th percentile, and his pitch framing is in the 94th.
Patrick Bailey is, indeed, superstar caliber.
