For such a long season, it's funny how quickly a baseball team's narrative can change. For two weeks the Giants were digging up new ways to lose each night.

Then some notable players returned and beat a last-place team. Now the Giants are back. Or so the narrative says after a win that bumped the team's record to 4-12 since the All-Star break.

Even with Brandon Crawford and Joc Pederson back in the fold, this team is still a mediocre one, seven games out of a playoff spot. They don't need a good two weeks to recover. They need eight.
