Arson Judge is not what I thought about as I watched Aaron Judge circle the bases twice Friday night, his first-ever game at Oracle Park.
Instead I thought briefly about what could have been. About how rare it is in life to see what the path not taken looks like.
I thought about how Greg Johnson, the Giants chairman, said this week that star hitters don't come to San Francisco because it's hard to hit home runs. And then you watch Judge do it with ease and think, damn.
One day the Giants will again have a Bondsian or Judgian slugger of their own. It might be years from now, maybe even decades. In the meantime, at least for the next two days, the Giants will have to endure what could have been.
Up next: Logan Webb (4-4, 2.74 ERA) faces Cody Poteet (1-0, 1.50 ERA) for some Saturday night baseball. First pitch at 7:10 p.m.
