Giants fans were living in two realities on Wednesday afternoon.
The first was celebratory, featuring memes of Buster Posey in a chef's hat. The Giants chief executive traded Tyler Rogers to the Mets for three players, including two of New York's top 15 prospects. If it wasn't a heist, it was a one-sided deal for two months of Rogers before he hits free agency.
The second reality, though, was funeral-like. That's what happens when you get swept by the Pirates on the eve of the trade deadline. The Giants lost all six games on their homestand for the first time since—brace yourself—1896. Some of those losses came against the Boston Beaneaters.
These Giants sit below .500 for the first time all year. They're six games out of a playoff spot and have the same number of losses as the Marlins. Whatever Posey and his team are cooking up, well, it stinks.
Trade deadline: From the crystal ball on my side of the keyboard, I could see Camilo Doval, Justin Verlander, and even Robbie Ray getting traded before Thursday’s 3 pm deadline. Posey seemed very reluctant to appear as if he’s giving up on his team, but who’s really been giving up on who here?
Up next: The Giants are off on Thursday as they head to New York to play the Mets. We’ll see who’s left by first pitch at 4:10 pm on Friday.
Should’ve never saddled the Posey era with Nothing Like It stank
