🎧 Kerry and I recorded a new episode of Giants Postcards last night. We get into the issue of being a “comeback” team, our favorite parts of Heliot Ramos’s Little League homer, and the curse of facing former Giants. Tune in on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The Giants have been the comeback kings. It's a high-wire act, and not a title you necessarily want. You only earn it by falling behind—a lot. (Their 6.90 ERA in the first inning may have something to do with that.)
Against good teams, it's a helluva lot harder to come back. Against the Padres bullpen, the best in baseball, it's near impossible. Especially when half your lineup is hitting under .210.
The Giants fell behind 3-0 both Tuesday and Wednesday and, well, that was the end of that. In the span of two days they dropped from first to third place. Now they step into a four-game series with the Rockies, who have five wins all year.
Should be easy, right? Nothing is when you're used to playing from behind.
Up next: The Giants come home to play Colorado. It’ll be two struggling veterans going at it on Thursday night: Justin Verlander vs. Kyle Freeland. First pitch at 6:45 pm.
