The Giants saw an old friend on Monday evening in Minnesota.
Former almost-Giant Carlos Correa faced his almost-team for the first time since he almost signed for 13 years and $350 million.
It's mind-boggling not only to reconsider the fallout between Correa and the Giants, but also the numbers. Thirteen years—a contract through 2035. Three-hundred fifty million dollars.
And year one's not getting off to a great start. After knocking a couple hits in a 4-1 loss, Correa is batting .213 with a .698 OPS.
Michael Conforto, Thairo Estrada, J.D. Davis, and LaMonte Wade Jr. all have a higher OPS. Wilmer Flores has as many home runs (six).
We'll never know how Correa would be on the Giants. We have the next 12 years to wonder.
Next up: Alex Cobb (3-1, 1.94 ERA) and Sonny Gray (4-0, 1.64 ERA), two veterans off to incredibly strong starts, square off Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis, 4:40 p.m. first pitch.
