The Giants spent 67 days trying to get back here. For more than two months they’ve been yo-yoing between one and six games under .500, lost in a sea of mediocrity and writing the story of the season.
Is this where the plot twist comes in? Is this where the World Series DVD begins?
After seven attempts to get back to the break-even mark, the Giants are finally there at 57-57. Logan Webb pitched well enough to earn the win. Tyler Fitzgerald hit another home run. And another 67-day journey has begun.
If it goes impossibly well, the Giants will be getting ready for the NLCS. If it goes the way it will probably go, the Giants will be on the couch looking for something to watch. They don’t make DVDs about .500 teams, after all.
Up next: Hayden Birdsong (3-0, 2.97 ERA) and MacKenzie Gore (6-9, 4.54 ERA) square off in Game 2 of this series. First pitch at 3:45 p.m.
