Yankees 3, Giants 1
The first three games of any season will leave you wondering. The first three games of this season? Well, I have a lot of questions. Most of them on the spectrum from irrational to delusional. In the spirit of honesty and vulnerability, here’s what crossed my mind over these three games:
Am I really going to watch another .500 team for the next six months?
Has anyone in history been more likely to ground out to second base than Jung Hoo Lee?
Why does the Giants best reliever play for the other team?
Are the Giants too old to hit high-velocity pitches?
Is Luis Arraez good at defense? Is Luis Arraez bad at defense?
Is Willy Adames worse defensively than Luis Arraez?
Are endless ball-strike challenges actually a good thing?
Maybe the bullpen is actually fine?
Why do the Giants attract these weird historic footnotes?
Is this the most expensive lineup to ever score one run in 27 innings?
Why is Harrison Bader batting ninth behind Patrick Bailey and Casey Schmitt?
Does Tony Vitello believe in the second leadoff man?
Is Tony Vitello overwhelmed?
What if Aaron Judge had actually signed with the Giants?
Up next: The Giants are out of Opening Days—and they can’t lose on Sunday because they’re not playing. They’ll open up a series in San Deigo on Monday, when Walker Buehler and Landon Roupp will square off.
In Saturday’s newsletter I accidentally wrote Roupp would start the series finale against the Yankees. Thanks to Marty for spotting my mistake. Giants Postcards regrets this error.
