🎧 New episode of Giants Postcards: Kerry and I play the Blame Game, riff on Barry Zito, and take a peek into Buster Posey’s suite. Listen on Apple, Spotify, or anywhere else.
Tyler Rogers hasn’t been acting like himself.
Yes, he still throws the baseball like a frisbee at 82 mph. But as the pitch crosses the plate, batters have been swinging through it. Some have even watched it whizz by for strike three.
It's, um, strange.
Rogers is decidedly not a Strikeout Guy. Last year, 89% of pitchers had a higher strikeout rate. Two years before that it was 93%. And yet, in this mysterious 2025 season, his strikeout rate has vaulted from the 11th percentile to the 76th. Call it an identity crisis.
He's whiffed the last five batters he's faced, including the only one he saw Friday night. With the tying run on second in the late innings, he painted a sinker on the outside corner to end the threat.
You won't confuse Rogers for The Rocket, and yet my wife pointed out he has a son named Nolan Ryan Rogers. Makes you think.
Up next: Robbie Ray (7-0, 2.56 ERA) looks to stay perfect as he squares off with Edward Cabrera (1-1, 4.76 ERA) in Miami. First pitch at 4:10 pm.
