The Giants do nostalgia better than anyone. They celebrate their history, showcase their legends, and soak in the Good Ol' Days.
Saturday was no different. They planned Brandon Crawford Day specifically around Bruce Bochy's only trip to San Francisco. And while it started with a celebration of the franchise shortstop, it ended with a nod to the franchise's most decorated manager.
Bochy is a grand master of pitching changes. That's the only way he successfully navigated four teams through October. Almost miraculously, he pulls the right strings in the right spots.
The Giants were on the receiving end of Bochy's maneuvers Saturday. He made that all-too-familiar ramble to the mound in each of the last three innings, ninth inning included. With the winning run on third, Bochy brought in a lefty to force Patrick Bailey to hit from his weaker right side.
Smart move, until Bailey sent the first pitch into right field. The Giants spilled onto the field, never happier that one of Bochy's pitching changes finally went wrong.
Up next: The Giants go for the series win Sunday afternoon, with Jordan Hicks looking to bounce back against Jack Leiter. Hicks has allowed 18 runs in his last three starts. Leiter’s allowed one in two starts.
Giants do nostalgia better than anyone else. True dat! Vibes are strong. Everything is going right (Koss baserunning didn’t turn into a dagger). In first place. Padres are a medical ward. Giants stacking wins when mostly healthy is a road to the postseason.
